Day 1:Las Vegas with a stroll along the Strip. Overnight in Pahrump, NV.

Day 2:Death Valley National Park. Zabriskie Point and Golden Canyon. The dusty Panamint Mountains and Badwater Basin, the second-lowest point in North America (282 feet below sea level). The scenic Alabama Hills and Mobius Arch between the town of Lone Pine and Mount Whitney, the highest peak in the continental United States (14,505 feet). Overnight at the mountain resort in Bishop, California.

Day 3:California's "Dead Sea," Mono Lake, with a walk in South Tufa. The state capital of Nevada, Carson City. Orion Clemens House. Comstock Mining District. Mark Twain landmarks in Virginia City. Overnight in Fallon, NV.

Day 4:Naval Air Station Top Gun in Fallon and Grimes Point petroglyphs. Lovelock and Winnemucca, gold mining centers in Nevada. The geothermal area of Beowawe. California Trail Museum and Sherman Station in Elko. Overnight in West Wendover, NV.

Day 5:Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah – the remnants of ancient Lake Bonneville, which covered the entire Great Basin 3-4 thousand years ago. The Great Salt Lake and Salt Lake City, with the Utah State Capitol and Temple Square. A view from above of the largest open-pit mine in the world, Bingham Canyon Mine. Overnight in Sandy, Utah.

Day 6:Timpanogos Cave National Monument. Utah's first territorial capital, Fillmore. The colorful Big Rock Candy Mountains. Evening bathing at the sulfur hot springs of Monroe Hot Springs Resort. Overnight in Richfield, Utah.

Day 7:The geological phenomenon San Rafael Swell. The fairytale Goblin Valley and US-24, one of the most scenic roads in America, leading from Hanksville to Torrey. Capitol Reef National Park with a walk to the Hickman Bridge and an introduction to the ancient petroglyphs. Overnight in Torrey, Utah.

Day 8:Another famous scenic road, US-12, between Torrey and Tropic in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Kodachrome Basin State Park and a walk along the Mossy Cave Turret Arch trail in Tropic. Overnight in Bryce, Utah.

Day 9:Sunrise at Bryce Canyon. Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City. The crimson rocks of Kolob Canyon. One of the fastest-growing cities in the U.S., St. George, and the magnificent Snow Canyon State Park. Overnight in Mesquite, NV.

Day 10:Lost City Museum and Valley of Fire. Departure from Las Vegas.
